Welcome to 5B!

We have lots of fun and exciting things planned this year.  We have two great field trips that we will be taking the students on.  The first is our Science field trip to Challenger Learning Center in February.  The students study about the Challenger flight and get a hands-on learning experience about what it’s like to be an astronaut.  The second is our big overnight Social Studies field trip to Indianapolis.  The students will visit the historical sights and even take a trip back in time at Connor Prairie.

In addition to our great field trips, we also have some book work we will do.  The students will be studying hard in math learning about decimals, rounding, expressions, equations, and graphs to name a few.  By the end of the year, the students will have done more work with fractions; learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide them.  They will also learn a little bit of geometry and algebra - finding the area, circumference, and perimeter.

We are very excited about starting our new reading series called Treasures.  We will be reading stories about mix-ups and misunderstandings, courage and bravery, and even dogs and rattlesnakes too.  The students will also be learning to write this year.  Writing is a very important aspect of your child’s ISTEP.  Students will express themselves through personal narratives, persuasive writing, expository writing, and outlines.

Wow 5B is going to be really busy this year!  So come on in and let’s get started.  If you should ever need anything please don’t hesitate to contact me.  You can call me at school or send me an e-mail.
