Is SMS affordable? YES!! Our competitive rates enable us to offer our excellence in education at an affordable price. Financial aid is available such as using service hours, TRIP and Diocesan assistance including free and reduced lunch, tuition and books. What is TRIP? TRIP is tuition reimbursement incentive program. It is a national program offered to non-profit organizations to help raise funds. TRIP is designed to reduce families’ tuition costs and help generate revenue for the participating school. St. Mary Catholic Community School will purchase certificates from over 90 local businesses. The certificates will be purchased at a discount and sold to families at full face value. Service Hours During the 2006-07 school year a credit of $400 was offered to families for working a total of 8 hours of service at designated fund raisers. How does St. Mary compare to other schools in Indiana? Follow the link below to the DOE website. Are parents bombarded with candy sales, raffle ticket sales, bake sales, and other fundraisers throughout the year? No. Due to the tremendous efforts of our Home and School Association, we have a few major fundraisers rather than many small ones.
Are hot lunches
available to students?
Yes. Crown Point Food Service provides two choices
of lunches daily. Children can choose to bring a cold lunch or purchase
a hot lunch on a daily basis. Milk may be purchased alone. Monthly
menus are distributed to families.
What is the Wildcat?
The Wildcat is the Weekly Communication sent home
with the oldest child on Wednesday. Report Cards, sports updates, news
items, monthly calendar, menu, fund-raising information, and school
sponsored activities are all included in the Wildcat. Your child should
return the folder to his teacher the next day.
Do we collect General Mills Boxtops and
Campbell Labels?
Yes. We collect both. They may be sent to school in
a marked envelope.
What is a NUT Card?
NUT Card stands for "NO UNIFORM TODAY". A child
may present his teacher with a NUT Card that allows him to be out of
uniform for the day as stated in the school handbook. NUT Cards are
sometimes given out to parents who attend Home and School meetings.
There are other ways throughout the year that children may obtain a card
also.
How do we find out about school
closings?
The oldest child in a family is part of a class phone
tree that is distributed at the beginning of the school year. When a
teacher is notified of an emergency closing, she will start the phone
tree. For weather related closings, we are included in the Crown Point
Community School closings.
What is WSMW?
WSMW is our daily student run broadcast. Students in
grades 6-8 may apply for the opportunities available to run the
broadcast. WSMW is broadcast to the classrooms and also available on
our school website.
Are we required to do volunteer hours?
Each family is obligated to do 8 hours of volunteer
time at a Home and School sponsored fundraiser, or pay an additional
$400 fee. These hours may be divided among the fundraisers. A parent
or legal guardian may only fulfill these hours.
May I attend Mass with my child?
Parents and siblings are always welcome at Mass.
Children will sit with their class and we ask parents to sit in the rear
of church to allow for all the classes.
What time to I drop off and
pick up my child?
Students are to be in their classrooms at 7:25am.
Doors open at 7:00am. You may find a line of cars in the morning at
drop off. It is suggested you aim for an earlier drop off to prevent
tardiness. Pick up after school is at 2:15pm. You will proceed up
Rosary Lane and alternate with cars to the cones marked 1 - 10 where
your child will be waiting after his name has been called by one of the
teachers. This procedure will be more easily understood after going
through it a few times.
WHERE DO I FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION?
The School Handbook provides most of the information
you will need. The school office and your child's teacher can also
assist you in any questions.
Who do I call if I have more questions? Administrative Assistant, Jeanne McCall 663-0676.
