Welcome to Mr. Nieman’s Jr. High Social Studies.

In 7th Grade we will take an in-depth look at world history, particularly the Eastern Hemisphere.  We’ll begin by looking at ancient Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt. We will also look at both the history and the present status of the Middle East, India, China, Vietnam, and Japan.  At the end of the year, we’ll dive into our study of Africa.  The 7th graders will also spend a lot of energy learning the geography of these places.  It should be a lot of fun.

The 8th graders will study early U.S. History up to the Civil War and Reconstruction.  A heavy emphasis is also placed on politics and government as we will look at the evolution of the two party system, the brilliance behind our democracy, creation of our Constitution, and the protections offered by our Bill of Rights.  Hopefully the class will help you take on the mind set of an informed American citizen.
