Language Arts is no longer called English because it's so much more than the traditional grammar and sentence diagramming. It includes reading and interpreting all types of texts in an effort to reach deeper, allowing students to interact with literature and construct insightful meaning. It is also writing artfully and thoughtfully, getting across one's views and feelings. And Language Arts is also speaking confidently to an audience. Though these are the major aspects of Language Arts, it is by no means all there is. Welcome to new experiences in Junior High and exploring all the possibilities our language holds. |
