This is my seventh year at St. Mary’s! Special Interests: 2nd graders!! Who wouldn’t love working with such fun-loving, eager children?! I also love to sew and cook when I get the time. Reading and gardening bring me lots of enjoyment!! In the summer I love hanging out at the beach with my four children. I love the outdoors. I am an aerobic instructor at the Southlake YMCA. I coach cheerleading at St. Mary’s and I’m in charge of the school Yearbook! Music: I’m a fan of most types of music except Rap and Head-Banger stuff. Nora Jones, James Blunt, James Taylor, John Mayer, and Rascal Flats are some of my favorites. Movies: Anything with Tom Hanks. Forrest Gump is one of the best! TV Show: I don’t get to watch too much TV. The 10:00 news is my treat at the end of the day! Hobbies: Someday I’ll have time for hobbies again! Things that Happen in 2nd Gr: Religion: We begin everyday as a school with prayer. We pray before lunch and before leaving for home. We celebrate all-school mass every Friday and primary-level mass every other Tuesday. Each week we learn a new lesson in our Religion series. Starting in October we say a decade of the Rosary daily. During the season of Lent, all second graders make the sacrament of First Reconciliation! READING!! Beyond the activities in our reading series, the students are involved with the Accelerated Reading Program. Computer quizzes are taken daily by the students to evaluate comprehension and word meaning from books read from our classroom library! Writing: Daily Journal Writing is a huge component to the Language Arts Curriculum in Room 2B! Students learn about sentence structure, punctuation, phonetic spelling, story order and writing styles during Journal Writing time. Every Journal entry is read aloud to the teacher and fellow classmates to reinforce reading and editing skill! Math: The students engage in a variety of math activities each day while using Saxon Math. To enrich our math program, students in 2B participate in a computer generated math program called Accelerated Math (AM). This individualized program reinforces skills already learned while promoting higher level thinking through challenging problems. Each student works at his/her own ability level. Social Studies and Science: Map skills and learning about our community and government are important topics in 2nd grade Social Studies. In Science, the students learn about plants, animals, dinosaurs, and weather as part of the science curriculum. “Specials”: Each week the students visit our school library, attend P.E. classes, engage in activities in our Computer Lab, are given art instruction from the art teacher, and sing along in Music class and learn music concepts from our music teacher! Our “Specials” teachers are the best around! The kids love attending their “Specials” classes |
