Welcome to St. Mary Catholic Community School! Tradition Since 1872

A State of Indiana Exemplary Status, A rated School

En Español

Saint Mary’s School is an important part of our Faith Formation Ministry at Saint Mary’s Church.  Our primary purpose is teaching our children to be followers of Jesus Christ in the Roman Catholic Tradition.  To this end, instruction in Religion is included in the daily curriculum and the entire school community regularly attends the Eucharist.  Other liturgical events are scheduled during the year.

Our school enjoys a rich history.

Soon after the Saint Mary’s Church was founded in 1865, the Sisters of Saint Agnes were invited to minister here.  A convent was constructed in 1872 and the Sisters’ Residence served as the first school house.

The Sisters of Saint Agnes were destined to serve at Saint Mary’s for more than a century.  We are forever grateful for the the women who served here as members of this religious community.  One of our church buildings is known as the Saint Agnes Center – a modest expression of our gratitude for the dedicated women who served here as Sisters of Saint Agnes.

Since 1865, Saint Mary’s Catholic School has operated under the authority of the Pastor of Saint Mary’s Church.  Today, the Pastor governs the school with the shared wisdom of the Saint Mary’s Pastoral Council and Finance Council.

Day-to-day administration of Saint Mary’s School operates under the able leadership of our School Principal, Mr. L. Thomas Ruiz, who was appointed by the Pastor in 2006.  The strong working relationship enjoyed by the Pastor and Principal is a blessing for the children served at Saint Mary’s School.

The Saint Mary’s School Advisory Council is the primary forum for the Pastor and the School Principal to seek the wisdom of parents in matters related to the life of our school.   SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL

Our Pledge

May God bless our minds to think our best thoughts,

Our words to speak kindly to one another,

Our hearts to feel compassion,

And our hands to reach out to one another in compassion and care.

I promise always to do my best and to treat everyone with respect and kindness.

I will follow the example of Jesus and his Mother Mary in all things.

Today I promise to live what Saint Mary teaches.

We are all one - United in Christ!
